Ugh, I am so hot. Just took a 1 1/2 hour lunch break, 45 minutes of which were spent sitting in my car without the air conditioning on (was trying to save gas). I even think I got a little sunburn.
First I called the credit manager back, only to find out that there wasn’t anything “wrong” … he just didn’t know what “name change” on the form meant and needed my work address and phone number, even though I wasn’t told I needed to provide that information when I initially filled out the form
And then, he told me that the work number I gave him was a cell number, and I was like umm what? It’s not my fault if my boss calls me on her cell — I figured she’d use her work number when calling about work-related stuff … thus me thinking that’s what it was *sigh* But he didn’t push it any further, and let me go. If he actually calls Lois about something, she’ll either give him the right number and/or relay the message to me. I thought they only needed my work number to make sure I’m actually employed here, which is why I gave the boss’s number instead of my own. Wow, that sounds really confusing (and dumb on my part) … oh well. Speaking of utilities, I can renew the UDAP contract starting tomorrow, and there’s a UDAP fair next week … so definitely gonna go to that if I need to/can.
Then I got a Sheetz car wash! But since the $5 option I got last time sucked, I moved up to $6 and am mostly happy (except for the car wash not working for 10 minutes part … and the 5 cars in front of me that seemed to barely move). There’s still a couple faint spots on the windshield and mud spots from the tires on the bottom edge of the car, but other than that, it’s a lot cleaner
I’m thinking next time I’ll “splurge” on the $7 wash and see if there’s any difference.

This is so weird … it’s 9:18 am and I’m the only one at work besides this other lady whose name I forget (every other Friday I’m one of the last). Oh, nevermind, two people just showed up. I guess everyone’s a little late … it’s so nice outside and all I wanna do is lay out in the sun all day. Oh well.
Got a call from the credit manager of Rockingham Petroleum yesterday, and I have no idea why and am also a bit worried ’cause I’ve never had anything wrong with my credit or whatever in the past  I’m gonna return his call on my lunch break and hopefully get everything straightened out, since when Starza signed up a year ago they didn’t call her. Maybe it has something to do with changing names on our account two weeks ago?

Saw this article on Yahoo and thought it was pretty interesting — now I don’t have to feel bad about those occassional nights of 3 hours of sleep

Not that there’s anything wrong with my current relationship, but I wonder what this feels like … especially when it comes from someone who doesn’t seem to take her love life lightly.

Okay this is pissing me off. I haven’t been able to check my email all day — Google’s been mostly down since last night and I wish they’d hurry up and fix whatever went wrong. I have 8 unread messages, according to my Gmail notifier, and it’s really bugging me that I can’t read them, especially since a few of them are important and/or work-related *sigh* If Gmail doesn’t get its act together by work tomorrow, I might have to go back to checking three separate email accounts (Gmail, JMU, weirdncrazy.com), and that would suck
Oh yeah, and my site almost stopped working (i.e., took insanely long to load) with Google Analytics turned on, but it’s off now … stupid Google …
Edit: So Google didn’t explicitly hate me … just Adelphia. Either that or Adelphia was blocking Google … whatever went on, it’s over now — hopefully for good. Scratch that — it happened all over again today, and is still happening. WTF?
Edit: Turns out we just needed to reset/unplug our router and modem. Weird.

Open Source Windows: “A simple list of the best free and open-source software for Windows.” I’ve only tried a small handful of these (Firefox, Gaim, FileZilla), but I hope to be converted over to a few more soon.

I failed my portfolio review and I don’t have the slightest idea why — as soon as I got the email I started crying in surprise/shock/disbelief. If my work wasn’t good enough, I should have felt that and expected this outcome, right? If I suck so much, why do I have a job as a design assistant and why do people want me to freelance for them? I got an A in every one of the 3 classes (computer graphics, typography, and methodology) and no one had ever told me that I needed to “step it up” or “work a little harder.” I followed the directions for the review: included every graphic made in those classes (printed them all out, cropped them, and placed them in the nice portfolio case my grandpa gave me for Christmas) and turned it in the week before spring break. Yeah a couple weren’t examples of my best work, but what graphics student is proud of everything they’ve done? I emailed Dawn (the person in charge of the whole thing who told me not to worry because most people pass) about what happened in hopes of finding out what I did wrong. The rejection email has turned my ordinary Monday into a pitfall of tears and fears and confusion, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, not passing means the following:
- I’ll no longer be able to graduate in 4 years
- my dad will have to pay a hell of a lot more money
- with 2 required classes left, I’ll only be a part-time student in the fall
- I’ll have to take the review again next semester, and if I don’t make it, that’s it: I can’t get a design degree
So yeah, I’ve been upset for a good couple hours. I’ve calmed down a little, but only because I have yet to hear back from Dawn … I keep wishing the portfolio judges made a mistake or the rejection email got sent by accident or they lost my portfolio … I don’t care what she says as long as the above doesn’t come true because, frankly, I deserve it. If all the work and hours and stress and money spent to pursue and succeed in design has been in vain, I don’t know what I’m gonna do … I don’t even want to think about it … ![]()
