11-hour day.

Arrow Thursday, July 14, 2005 @ 8:31 pm

I don’t think I’ve ever worked for 11 (technically 10:10 with lunch) hours before … wow it was crazy. I finished about four jobs on my own, and then helped with random other jobs for Rodney, Basha, and Selina. I wasn’t really tired, though … I have no idea why since I got like six hours of sleep, but I was energetic for most of the day and felt better than usual. Maybe it was the coffee I had in the morning or the salad and coffee I had for lunch  All I know is that by the time 7 finally came, I was so ready to leave. And since the working “high” I’d been on all day takes some time to wear off, I decided to call Derek on my drive home and got to talk to him on his break from class, which was cool. He said he’s been really busy too, but maybe I’ll get to say hi again tomorrow. We’ll see … I need more friends lol.

Speaking of friends, I went out to Friday’s last night with Shaune so she could buy me a drink (I decided on a cosmopolitan) for my birthday. Despite the really really loud and annoying party of literally 30 or 40 people (another swim team), we managed to talk semi-successfully until they left, and then ordered dessert and hung around ’til 11. It was good to see her again — especially when there are guy issues to talk about

I need a bed.

Arrow Tuesday, July 12, 2005 @ 9:26 pm

Found out a couple interesting things today. First, I might have to find a bed after all for Harrisonburg since a new roommate (Starza’s meeting the candidates this weekend) will be more likely to say yes if they know the room’s furnished. And since we really need to find somebody, I can deal with dragging large pieces of wood and metal to the middle of nowhere if I have to. Luckily, Starza turned down the preppy girl, so maybe our new person won’t be like the rest of JMU.

Second, I found out why I haven’t seen Derek in awhile — he took a few days off (I think he was sick) and got back today, and thus was busy and didn’t have time to come by. Of course, after asking about him Rodney decided to be funny and frickin’ call him all like, “Claire wants to see you!” (and making me turn red). So we talked for a minute about how Rodney was crazy and how stuff was going and then he had to go to class, so yeah … I have solved the Derek mystery

See the rose within the field of white
She’s searching for the grail
But the rain descends to snatch the light
From distant dying suns
A faint resounding in the night
Calls angels wings to beat
Singing silent lip-sewn songs
The distance is too deep …

I love that song (”Dragonfly by The Cruxshadows).

Oh, and Firefox 1.0.5 is out — go download it.

Longhorn screenshots.

Arrow Sunday, July 10, 2005 @ 12:04 pm

According to this post, some people have received post-beta release invites to test out Microsoft’s new Longhorn 5203. While the overall look is nice, I don’t like the transparent windows or how the Start menu is so similar to XP’s. Guess we’ll find out the final look eventually.

Google Earth.

Google Earth

I’m speechless — Google Earth is the coolest thing ever. I wasn’t even going to download it, but got curious after Daynah’s post and figured why not? Basically you type in an address/city and a 3D satellite model of the planet spins and zooms until the desired location is reached. Want directions somewhere? No problem: Earth is also integrated with Google Maps. It’s frickin’ cool.

Don’t mind me.

Trying to fix my site (footer is AWOL, among other things) … wondering what happened to Brian (funny how he didn’t call again) … feeling blah … and a creepy shadow just moved across my basement window. Tonight sucks.

Edit: Footer is fixed and I have finally achieved rounded corners (thanks Podz)!

A date?

Arrow Thursday, July 7, 2005 @ 6:46 pm

Wow that was kinda weird … haven’t been asked out in a long time, but as I’m sitting here finishing up at work, Derek calls from ITT to say hi and that he’s sorry he didn’t come by today, and also to see if I wanted to get dinner sometime. I was like eep? I had to politely decline (and let him know I was “taken”), but he was cool with it and still wants to be friends which I guess is good — so now I have a friend at work (yay?).

I feel powerful.

Arrow Wednesday, July 6, 2005 @ 1:23 am

So today (technically yesterday) was my 21st birthday. Work went alright, but wasn’t anything to brag about … good thing I can sleep in an hour tomorrow. Went out to dinner at Sweetwater with Dad and Aunt Ann, and got carded for the first time. Ordered a classic margarita while waiting for a table, then got the Asian chicken salad as an entree and white chocolate cheesecake for dessert — really yummy. They even lit a candle in the whipped cream and wrote “happy birthday” in chocolate  It was nice.

Afterwards I went to Brian’s to celebrate, but ended up just opening presents since we were both pretty tired and had to get up early again. Birthdays during the week (especially your 21st) are frickin’ annoying … but yeah, what can you do. Here’s what today brought:

Aunt Ann:
- $200 check

Brian:
- bike rack for my car
- Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison 2-pack DVD
- French Kiss DVD
- Interview with the Vampire DVD

I also got an unexpected birthday IM from Jessica, which was cool … though hers is on the 8th so I guess it’s easier to remember. But nothing from Shaune, Kristen, Brad, etc … meh

I need sleep.
