Document production is hard.
Tuesday, June 28, 2005 @ 11:28 pm Man. I never knew that printing and binding and collating could be so much work. I spent half the day standing in 2-inch heels, printing 2500 color pages, and hand-collating 13 stacks of 150 pages each. Ick. Not to mention binding and cutting. Don’t even know how to laminate yet, but I guess I’ll figure that out tomorrow. And I’m the youngest and only white person in the duplication center … is that a sign or am I just too observant? The rest of AOL seems more like me.
On a better note, I don’t have to deal with the clients (yet).
It was also hard to wait to 3:30 to eat lunch — it wouldn’t have been so bad if I’d eaten more than a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast and remembered to bring water or a snack with me. Not having a badge makes it hard to leave the duplication center — why does every frickin’ door and elevator require authorization? But oh well … if I get lost or locked out, it gives me a chance to meet the cool, “real” AOL people like the nice guy in the News section
Nevertheless, it was neat learning how a document goes from the computer to the pretty little pamphlets and brochures and manuals you see everyday. Rodney (my boss) also said that if I wasn’t going to school, he’d most likely offer me a permanent position in the department if I wanted, so yay. Apparently my knowing how to use a computer and what the mouse and desktop are is a big plus …
