Another failed call.

Wow, I really hate HP. Just got off the phone with Support and talked to a guy in frickin’ India who I could barely understand, explained numerous times to him that I did not get pop-up windows while online and that the CPU might be damaged, yet he didn’t listen and continued to try and sell me software that costs who knows how much and claimed it would fix all my problems. Right. Then he had me open the Registry Editor and change some value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and restart. And what a surprise — the machine is still slow *sigh* This is really pissing me off.

It’s obvoiusly either a CPU issue.

Or it could be memory related. Bad memory causes some real wacky stuff to happen.

You have 2 sticks of RAM In there? Take one out and see how the computer works. If it still has issues, try the other piece

If you only have 1…I don’t know how else you can test it unless a friend has memory you can borrow.

If that isn’t it, what I do is demand to speak with that person’s supervisor or even better, escalate the call to the next level of tech support. Demand it. If the person you talk to isn’t helpful, hang up and call back.

Unfortunately India’s tech support isn’t exactly top notch.

Thanks Chris — a new memory stick with 512 MB is on the way. Hopefully it’ll work …
