Memorial Day, AOL.

Arrow Tuesday, May 31, 2005 @ 12:34 pm

Had an interesting “day off.” Hung around the house from 10 (when I woke up) to 5:30 doing practically nothing, went to dinner at Brian’s parents’ house at the last minute, and then proceeded to clean for at least 3 hours while Brian watched some basketball game. I vacuumed his top floor, cleaned the mirrors, sink, and toilet of the guest bathroom, and the mirrors, 2 sinks, tub, toilet, and shower of the master bathroom. It really needed it too (Brian had forgotten his shower doors were clear!) … good thing he didn’t feel like protesting  Don’t think I’ve ever cleaned so much in one day, but it definitely felt good (I’m like Monica on Friends if you hadn’t noticed) — and if I have the energy tonight I’ll be tackling the shower doors again (they put up a fight) and downstairs bathroom.

Gail just called, and said AOL’s feedback about me was very good (a nice surprise since I thought I’d screwed up), so yay … I’ll know by 5 today whether I’m in or out.

One down, three to go?

My first wisdom tooth is almost fully emerged now, and it feels really weird … especially since there’s still a piece of my gums covering it that moves whenever I touch it. I’m glad it doesn’t hurt, but I’m not sure why it’s here when the others (if I even have them) haven’t shown any signs of movement … good thing I have a dentist appointment next month.

WordPress 1.5.1.2.

Arrow Saturday, May 28, 2005 @ 11:38 am

WordPress 1.5.1.2 was released yesterday with a security update … though if you’re like me, you’ll want to do the one-line fix manually instead of deleting and re-uploading everything

Maybe AOL will like me.

Gail finally called me back this morning with the news that AOL wanted to interview me in either 2 or 4 hours — since I’d just woken up (and the drive takes 30 - 40 minutes), I chose 4  Once I found the place and got past the guard, I just had to sign in and wait 20 minutes for my interviewer to come. Eventually he appeared, took me to a “think” room with whiteboard walls and dry erase marker scribbles everywhere, and asked me about my skills with Word and Excel. I think I did alright, especially since he mentioned I might be helping with a part of the AOL site. Even though the job isn’t a huge, life-changing position, I don’t really care — working for AOL would be awesome.

Yuck.

So, I’m not technically sick, but this morning my throat was a little swollen or something and my head feels kinda cloudy. I don’t even have much of an appetite, but I made myself have cranberry juice, a piece of toast, and chicken noodle soup in hopes of deterring any coming illness.

What also sucks in the job search. The junk mail company has pretty much forgotten I’ve existed and failed to make contact since the interview (despite Sam saying he’d like me on board and my post-interview call and email). And the recruiter who called yesterday saying she could set me up with AOL for an interview today or tomorrow? Haven’t heard from her either *sigh* It might be my weak references (my Randstad person left, the volunteer director at GUH didn’t really work with me, and anyone else was from too long ago) … then again, that’s all I have  I guess if I don’t hear anything in a few days, I’ll either try Randstad again for mundane office work or start fresh with Manpower.

I’ve spent most of last night and today converting my fanlistings from PHPFanBase to Enthusiast, which allows me to keep everything together in one place (instead of five separate places) and is still being updated. Now I need a way to move my joined fanlistings (all 294) over without doing it manually. That would suck, and I’d do it if I had to, but still … somebody out there has gotta know the easy way.

Tired of it all.

Well, got my site back under control, but not my laptop — now it won’t even start, won’t run the Operating System CD, and keeps showing the blue screen of death *sigh* I just wish I knew what I did to screw it up so badly — I don’t download stupid programs or many mp3s, run adware/virus checkers consistently, and don’t have SP2. Now they’re sending me a new hard drive, but who knows if it’ll make any difference … it’s hard trying to talk to the Indian support guy (who I could barely hear) and my significant other (who’s yelling at me for being such an introvert and making it even harder to listen) at the same time

*sigh again* First Brian wants to help, then doesn’t, then gets mad at me for listening to support and not him, and it’s really frustrating. I mean, despite being in India, isn’t it a better idea to listen to support since they’ve been trained and are supposed to know what they’re doing? Dealing with Brian and dealing with HP are pretty much one in the same now, and I probably shouldn’t even talk about my computer with him anymore since the conversation always ends in him pointing out my failures and me feeling like crap. I don’t know … this whole situation is kinda stressful and the negativity from my boyfriend isn’t helping.

End of the line.

My new memory came, don’t think it helped. Tried to revamp my site’s structure, didn’t work … will try to fix it tonight. All I can do is sit here, stare at the screen, and wonder why my laptop has turned against me. Even the weather is sad (been raining all day). Has anyone else had to deal with this?

You can now personalize your Google homepage with mail, news, weather, etc. It’s pretty cool. What’s also cool is that I saw a fox today — I was talking on the phone and looking out my bedroom window, and all of a sudden this fox with a bushy tail jumps over some bushes and vanishes. Never seen one before.
