In order to be as successful as the Band Hanson, you have to have several things that all work together for you all throughout your life. First of all, the chips just have to fall the right way, the first time, at the right time. On top of that you have to have a dynamic work ethic. There is no such thing as a day off because you never know when opportunity will knock.
You have to have your bags packed in a sense and ready to go. There won’t be any time to get ready. Last of all you have to move at the right time. The right time may not even feel like it is right but there has to be a mechanism inside you that clicks automatically when it is time to move. I don’t really have time to go into it in much detail but I can see how all of these elements have come into play during the course of the life of the group.
A team that is well coordinated where each member is in tune with the others can easily move mountains and overcome any obstacle that presents itself.
There is nothing better than living together as a brotherhood to fuse a group of individuals into a winning team. I have seen this happen time and time again with people who were from completely different stations in life and it is truer with the group of brothers. They can successfully collaborate on their songwriting and I am willing to bet that there is a group dynamic which exists where each brother has an unspoken part to play in the group.
They will sometimes collectively come up with ideas and sometimes it is done individually but the fact of the matter is that whenever it comes together it fits like the pieces of a jig saw puzzle.
I once talked to a Vietnam vet who told me a funny personal story. He was caught in a firefight with his unit and no one could move forward. He began to psych himself up to get the job done and was successful in convincing himself to make the charge. The only problem that he has was that no one else got psyched up to move with him. This caused some major problems for him as you can imagine.
I say all of that to make this point. The fact that these men were pretty much isolated from our society for a while gave them a tremendous advantage. They were fed a certain constant musical diet which was the music that they had to listen to all of the time and as a result it helped to forge them into what they are now. They ate their spinach as far as I am concerned because I have a very high regard for all of the artists that they grew up listening to. They as a group all had the exact same diet as opposed to a group whose members came from many different backgrounds.
There is no way to survive these days without full commitment. There used to be a time when a man and woman married and the thought of divorce never became an issue no matter what happened in the marriage.
Each man has to have the best interest of every other individual in the group in mind. I have seen countless groups over the years where the lead decided to do his or her own thing and to leave the others behind. This more often than not does not work. In order to reach milestones you have to stay in the race. That’s why they are called milestones and not inch stones.
